Ordonez and Estrada sign together to remain in Omaha.(48.2)

Post by niles08 » Mon Aug 16, 2021 10:47 am

Just after the final out of the Landis Memorial series, Omaha wasted no time in beginning work on keeping the core together the best they could. With Orlando Ordonez, Wilson Estrada, Donald Miller, and Andre Ly all set to become free agents after 2048, there was work to be done, not only trying to negotiate deals but figuring out who to negotiate with.

Now, Omaha can cross half the list off.

Orlando Ordonez and Wilson Estrada have both signed extensions to remain in Omaha long term.

Beginning with Estrada, he signed a 6 year $68,500,000 deal, keeping him in Omaha through the age of 33. Estrada came onto the scene quickly in 2043 after being drafted in 2042 with the 8th pick in the draft and hasn’t looked back since. He has consistently put up 3 WAR per season with the most recent season being his career low of 2.7 at the age of 26. His career 140 wRC+ showcases just how good of a hitter he can be. Estrada, similar to Andre Ly, typically sits against left handed pitchers.

Estrada typically plays first base, but has been known to also play 3rd base on occasion in an emergency situation.

Onto Ordonez, who turns 28 this month, and now will be in Omaha through the 2054 season and his age 34 season. He signed a 6 year contract for an even $100,000,000. Ordonez put together another fantastic season finishing with a 6.1 WAR that was somewhat overshadowed by Sawyer Award winner and fellow outfielder Andre Ly. Ordonez has a career 65.6 ZR in center field along with a career 1.037 EFF rating to go with a career 112 OPS+ and a career 37.7 WAR.

So there you have it, two key pieces resigned in Omaha, but with approximately $15M left in cap space for each of the next 4 seasons, it looks like Omaha is going to have to choose between Donald Miller or Andre Ly after the 2048 season.
