Lance Harrison knows a AAA assignment is coming despite his 0.69 ERA this season.(47.06)
Last post-season, Lance Harrison was asked to swap places with Chandler Hall in the playoffs last season and pitch out of the bullpen so Hall could join the rotation, and Harrison did so tossing a 2.87 ERA over 15 innings pitched in his 11 postseason appearances.
Now it appears that Harrison knows there is likely another favor about to be asked by the Omaha front office. Harrison, who is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, knows Omaha’s track record of trying to not only squeeze every inning out of their players during the season, but hold onto control of the player for as long as possible.
“I know they know just as well as I know my current contract status.” Said Harrison. “We had some discussions over the off-season and I know there up against the league mandated salary cap.” The thing is, I’m not sure if I mind it if my free agency is delayed by a season. I really enjoy being a member of this club. I mean, I just got a ring and the team stayed together, so we have our eyes on multiple rings.” Harrison continued.
Harrison is currently making $2.5 million in his final season as it stands before free agency.
“I mean, when is enough, enough? If the club wants to pay me another season at my current salary, I would probably be more than happy to take that, just to stay in this organization.”
In past seasons, Timo Dooley & Donald Miller were among the players who have been sent down to acquire the approximate 2 weeks period the team needs to push out another year of arbitration and delay free agency for the player by a year.
It’s worth noting that Dooley & Miller did both end up signing extensions before their final arbitration season played out. Omaha currently has a projected payroll balance of $116 million next season, without the addition of Hernandez or Harrison, but do hold a team option on outfielder Andre Ly. It seems improbably that Omaha could keep the current pitching staff together even if picking up another season from Harrison.

There's no way the player would be on board with this, especially after just winning a ring. He'd be filing a grievance so damn fast.

Not if he is "loyal, a "leader", and has low "greed" lol. Maybe he knows SP's are all over the place right now and wants to wait a year to capitalize on the market.

Well either way lol...same difference as someone who left someone down for 2 weeks to start their career to get the extra control I suppose(which has caused grievances as well, just look at Kris Bryant). I haven't ever understood that in MLB, if you're going to do it, why not just do it for 1 week over 2 years instead of 2 weeks over 1 year? Then they only miss a start or a few games if they are a position player.

It is so different. There is a big difference in delaying a ML debut and sending a guy down in his "last year" who has a track record of being a pretty good player, especially when he's started the year as he has.
You bring up all the SP's in the league right now but he'd probably be one of the more attractive free agent options given his age and durability.

There's no reason you can't both be wrong.
Since Lance Harrison is really in no shape to petition the league, I think we'll just have to deal with him delaying free agency. If you want vengeance, maybe Harrison puts up 7 WAR this year, sucks it up in the playoffs, and then blows out his arm playing slots in the offseason.

I think refusing minor league assignment is something we should put in place. I think kicks if you have 5 years of team service or ML service (can't remember how OOTP handles it). It's just a game but you have to have something in place to protect the players.aaronweiner wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 3:36 pmSince Lance Harrison is really in no shape to petition the league, I think we'll just have to deal with him delaying free agency.

I believe minor league refusals is already turned on. I know Chicago had an issue last season with a relief pitcher refusing an assignment to AAA.bcslouck wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 4:22 pmI think refusing minor league assignment is something we should put in place. Just a follow up...the saga will continue in future team news because Harrison may or may not be refusing to be demoted lol.
