Emilio Morales not only showed up to spring in “the best shape of his life” but he’s showcasing something at the plate early on that Omaha fans assumed was only seen in old videos.
Morales this spring has hit 7 dingers in just 70 at bats while hitting a triple slash of .343/.356/.714. Those numbers are more in line with vintage Morales when he would bat .311/.332/.665 and hit 56-65 home runs in a season.
He struggled horribly last season posting his first negative WAR of his career with a .206/.247/.375 triple slash along with just 28 home runs, his lowest ever for a full season. His walk percentage has grown over the past 2 years though after walking just 1.8 and 2.6% of the time in 2043 and 2044, he has walked 4.7% the past 2 seasons to up his career average to an even 4.0%.
Fresh off a contract extension that now has him playing in Omaha through the 2049 season, Morales has a career 56 WAR that consists of a triple slash of 274/.307/.546 with 356 doubles, 16 triples, 1724 RBI, 1,312 runs scored, and maybe his most famous stat, he currently is 11 home runs from his 700th career home run.
Before we begin crowning Morales the MVP and handing him the Sawyer award this year let’s remember this is spring training however it’s still noteworthy considering Morales typically bats around .100/.150/.200 in the spring.

I voted assuming he won't play full time.

Well, I don't really have anybody to replace him with or immediate plans to since Mazin is still likely a year or or so off. Estrada could slide across the diamond if I got into a real bind.

He'll hit 26 home runs and then retire with 715.
