Hit #2000 for James Monger.(46.07)

Post by niles08 » Tue Mar 16, 2021 2:31 pm

Longtime Omaha infielder James Monger continues to rake up career allocates, this week surpassing 2,000 career hits. The moment came against Vancouver in front of a home crowd of just over 40,000. Monger's reaction to his accomplishment was nonchalant. He doffed his batting helmet to acknowledge the fans, who were chanting his nick-name of “Slap”.

After the game Omaha manager William Cole said, "James doesn't pay any attention to individual statistics, the only thing he cares about is winning. He will be more concerned that we lost the game." Cole’s comments come after Omaha dropped the game by a score of 6-4 after a 3-run top of the 7th for Vancouver.

Monger is off to a slow-start for the Cyclones currently batting just .233/.262/.406 in his first 202 at bats. For his career, he has a .284 average with 2001 hits, including 351 doubles, 33 triples and 365 homers, collected 1045 RBIs, scored 1063 runs and compiled a .341 OBP.

Many of those career numbers sit in the top 3 of the all-time Omaha leaderboard and Monger currently finds himself 3rd in WAR with a 43.3 career WAR accumulated in Omaha since his debut in 2034. Monger was recently resigned this past off-season after opting out of the final year of his contract where he was set to earn $12,000,000. The team resigned him to a 3-year deal worth a potential $43,000,000(the final year is a vesting/player option).

Is there a list of active players who've played for only one team? He must be at or near the top.

I'm not sure if there is or not honestly. I'd be curious to see it just because of the "core" I have had on the team for so many years that I haven't moved. Unfortunately guys like Jimmy Starks and Stephen Clulow would fall off that since they played elsewhere for half a season lol.

I have a spreadsheet that is a few seasons old at this point of every teams full history of every player that has stepped up to the plate for them. If I can dig it up I can probably find a way to figure out the single team leaders in various categories.
