Cyclones first rounder joins Rich Jacobs in AA to start pro career.(46.06)

The Cyclones first round pick Mike Alexander will skip several levels to begin his pro career after the team announced that he will join the AA Sioux City Xplorers. Alexander agreed this week to a signing bonus of $4,600,000. That bonus, quite a bit above the expected slot demand for the 29th overall pick in the draft. The 20 year old starting pitcher had some scouts ranking his as BBA ready already, but the team appears to be taking the conservative approach likely due to their current rotation depth.

He joins another 20 year old in Rich Jacobs, who has really developed and raised the ceiling that some scouts have on him over the past 2 years. Jacobs has gone from a 25 potential player when signed with the Hawks in 2044 on a minor league deal to a now 65 rated potential player, shifting him towards the front of a rotation.

Jacobs is 20 years old currently, with 5 pitcher and velocity that consistently hits 98-100 mph on the gun. The lefty could potentially reach the majors later this season although some point in the 2047 seasons seems more reasonable considering the Cyclones current glut of starting pitchers on the BBA roster. Jacobs has a 2.26 ERA through his first 59 innings of AA ball.

It’s possible both Jacobs & Alexander find the way to Omaha for the 2027 season with Norio Hayashi entering his final season of arbitration next year.
