Omaha buys out future arbitration from Estrada and Miller(46.04)

Wilson Estrada has signed a maximum 3-year extension worth a total of $20,020,000. This allows the team to avoid arbitration with Estrada during the next 3 seasons. He will make $5.34M in 2046, followed by two seasons of $7.34M the two seasons following. It’s also possible that Omaha finds a way to get cute and send Estrada down to AAA for a few weeks to gain an extra season in 2049, if Estrada’s contract demands at that time are not on par with Omaha’s belief of his value.

Estrada had a career best 154 WRC+ last season, but is coming off back to back seasons of a WRC+ of at least 153. He has accumulated 80 home runs in 1,311 career at bats and a career WAR Of 10.77 through his first 3 major league seasons. He will turn 25 during the 2046 season.

Outfielder/Designated Hitter Donald Miller has also agreed to a 3-year contract extension with Omaha. Miller has 3 years and 170 days of major league service, meaning 3 years was the maximum he could agree to. His contract will pay him $4.63M in 2046, followed by increases of $1M in each 2047 and 2048. Miller will also turn 25 during the 2046 season.

He was acquired midway through the 2043 season from Louisville and has done well since. Last season he had a 146 WRC+ along with a 3.66 WAR while posting a career high time spent on the field. He appeared in 53 games defensively, with a .972 EFF and -2.61 ZR in right field. Prior to arriving in Omaha, he had played just 2 innings in the outfield in his career.

"We felt we needed to get out ahead of this and get these two guys signed for as long as the league allowed us to. We obviously sent Don down to AAA last season to work on his defense in the field, and while some thought it was a move to add additional service time, I think this goes to show that wasn't the case." said GM Justin Niles
