At the age of 25, Orlando Ordonez has transformed into the player that Omaha hoped he would be back in 2036 when they signed him in international free agency. Although that was 9 years ago, Ordonez finds himself just 25 years old.

Ordonez has had an up and down career, breaking out in 2040 with a 5.1 WAR before falling back down in 2041 and 2042, averaging just 2.0 WAR thanks to a lackluster showing at the plate. Since 2043, Ordonez has gotten better each season.

In 2043, he finished with a 4.0 WAR, thanks to a 114 OPS+, and a 4.6 ZR in the outfield. In 2044, he elevated his OPS+ to 121, and his ZR also grew to 9.2 in center field.

This season, he has been phenomenal. Starting on defense, through 141 games, he has a 10.7 ZR and 1.052 EFF. He has committed just 2 errors in 465 chances, and has 8 assists. Speaking of assists, that would be a low for Ordonez as he has put up double digits every year since 2040, including a 20 assist year in 2041.

At the plate, Ordonez has a 144 OPS+ and a 148 wRC+ this season. He is batting .304/.366/.605 with 45 home runs, 105 RBI, 120 runs scored, and 36 stolen bases. Those 120 runs scored place him 4th currently with a likely chance to finish first in Omaha history by getting to 124.

His WAR this season is currently 7.5 which places him second on the Omaha all time WAR leaderboard behind Paul Barfoot in 2001 who had a 9.2 WAR. Some might remember Paul Barfoot and his 110.0 career WAR.

The only player in the Frick leading Ordonez in WAR is Shimizu from Madison, who also is currently sporting a sweet .400 batting average and also sporting a negative ZR in the outfield on the season. Did we mention he plays for a team that isn’t even .500? If those things are your cup of tea, then I guess Shimizu deserves the award.

If you want to vote a guy in who plays for a winning team, is setting franchise records, and is potentially going to win a gold glove in center field while doing just that, then Orlando Ordonez is your 2045 Sawyer Silk Award Winner.

im sensing a battle to resemble the famous (to me anyway) maldonado vs morales war of 2037 (where the newspaper GM of Omaha had a Dewey vs Truman moment in announcing the winner prematurely).
