Omaha decides on Rickey Taylor with first round selection, reject Logan Niles.(45.06)

Omaha made it’s selection with the 24th pick in the draft, selecting Rickey Taylor despite a familiar name being on the board still.

Ricky Taylor is a hard throwing right-handed pitcher who at age 22, has quite a bit of developing still to do if he wants to make this a career. While he currently only throws a fastball and a curveball, some scouts wonder if Taylor could develop a third pitch however some wonder if he can successfully throw the two he currently even has.

If he does develop, Taylor projects to be a force in the bullpen, or with a third pitch could potentially pitch in the middle of a rotation.

It’s worth pointing out that the club selected Taylor despite the person selecting having an opportunity to redraft his son Logan Niles. That’s right, Omaha GM Justin Niles passed up on the opportunity to draft shortstop Logan Niles after the club drafted him and failed to sign him a few seasons back.

Talk about an awkward upcoming Christmas at the Niles household.
