A surprising name is set to take over closer duties in Omaha. (44.27)

Jose Lima has been removed from the stopper role after 1 week of officially being removed from the rotation and given that title maybe more so as damage control to his pride than anything else. Well, the team apparently doesn’t care about those feelings as they have announced that Jose Lima will no longer be acting as the clubs closer/stopper and will instead pitch in setup.

Patrick Whitlock who most assumed would be given the role, will remain in setup with Lima, while a surprising same has now been called up due to the mentioned injury of Jake Garcia. Of course, we wouldn’t drag you along and not give you what you wanted.

Leonardo Ramos.

Yes, the fan favorite has not only been called up after having a wonderful season in AAA, but apparently is going to be given an opportunity to showcase his knuckle ball in the late innings. Ramos has been able to keep the ball in the park much of his minor league career, where the ballparks have the same dimensions as the current Cyclones ballpark ironically currently still named “Hawks Field”. Of course, the talent is much improved over the minor leagues.

At age 21, if Ramos is able to lock down the closer role it could be very possible that Omaha finds it’s closer it has searched for since the clubs all-time saves leader Jose Canales left the team after the 2041 campaign, heading to the UMEBA. It’s argued that a knuckleballer not only lasts longer than the average pitcher before showing their age, but Ramos also has a history of being very durable as shown by his past seasons in the minors.

If those hold true and Ramos locks this job up, it’s possible Leonardo Ramos is the closer in Omaha through the 2050s and dare I say that we may say his name in connection with some 2060s where he will be in just his mid 30s?
