Minutes ago Orlando Ordonez’s 4 game suspension was announced following what BBA officials said was “inappropriate and aggressive conduct” in the Omaha-Twin Cities game. The Omaha front office released a statement just seconds following the announcement in what appears to be a wild coincidence.

Omaha announced a new 4-year contract with Ordonez that will pay him $51,880,000 and have him in Omaha through his age 28 season. There are no options involved in the contract and Ordonez will make just under $16,000,000 next season, nearly the teams maximum allowed to remain under the salary cap. The last 3 years will pay Ordonez an even $11,970,000 each season.

Ordonez agreeing to a deal now is notable as it likely opened up additional cap room for 2046 and beyond since Ordonez appeared to be willing to take more next season and play a more front loaded deal. With Omaha's cap situation in the coming seasons, it is likely every penny will count in order to keep the current group of pitchers and position players together.

Back to Ordonez, he does have the ability to earn additional $1,750,000 each season if he reaches 500 plate appearances, something he has been able to do each season he has been in the BBA, despite injury concerns. Ordonez also will earn a $1,100,000 Sawyer Silk bonus, and pocket an extra $170,000 each season he is selected as an All-Star. The Silk and All-Star bonuses are unchanged from his current arbitration bought out season he is playing in 2044.

Ordonez seemed to be putting it together finally last season, and this year has been no different. He is batting .286/.364/.541 with a 144 wRC+ and 140 OPS+ early on. He has surprisingly been underwhelming in the field after posting a positive ZR and EFF over 1 each season, he currently has a -2.1 ZR and .945 Eff through the clubs first 25 games.

Pretty similar player to Kidane Ata, but apparently Ata forgot he was loyal. Nice signing for a younger similar player.
