#1 Malik Bin Mazin--#6 Overall.
#2 Carlos Silva--#71 OverallSummary: Bin Mazin was a scouting discovery for the Hawks, and immediately became the #1 prospect in the Cyclones organization. Bin Mazin is currently ranked as the #6 prospect in all the BBA due to this immense potential. He is expected to be able to stick at the hot corner when he does make his BBA debut. He is projected to be one of the best pure hitters of his generation according to some scouts with the strength to hit an above average number of dingers.
ETA: While some scouts are expecting Bin Mazin to make his BBA debut in 2047, he will be just 19 at that time so there is likely some wiggle room that could shift Bin Mazin back to 2048 or even 2049. It’s worth noting that current Cyclone third baseman is signed through 2048, when he will be 38 years old.
#3 Ozay Cebosoy--#84 OverallSummary: Silva was acquired from Calgary in the Jose Arrelano trade. At age 23, he is nearly completely developed other than a curveball that scouts say could use some seasoning. Silva pitches left handed and is projected to have a high number of strikeouts when he does reach the BBA full time.
ETA: Carlos Silva could debut at any time. Scouts think he could currently fill a depth role but Silva’s future is likely that of a #2 or #3 starter.
#4 Carlos Arroyo--#90 OverallSummary: Cebesoy was another scouting discovery by the Cyclone in-house scouts, signing a contract out of his native Turkey this past off-season. He was named the #83 prospect in the BBA to start the 2044 season. Cebesoy has a good swing, but is unlikely to set records. A .290 batting average seems reasonable, along with some big league pop.
ETA: The scouting department has the 2047 season marked down for the 17-year-old, which seems reasonable, however it’s possible he arrives around the same time as fellow teammate Malik Bin Mazin.
#5 Pedro Mendoza--#104 OverallSummary: The third scouting discovery for the Omaha front office to make up the top 4 prospects in the organization. Arroyo signed with Omaha just 2 months ago and was named the #89 prospect in the BBA 2 months later to start 2044. Arroyo is said to have an advanced approach at the plate, and although he may not compete for batting titles he should have a .270 batting average with plenty of long shots for the ladies. While a move to the corner outfield may in the cards, it’s still questionable whether he could stay in center.
ETA: The trend continues as scouts see Arroyo arriving in 2047 similar to the other top prospects with the Hawks.
Best of the rest:Summary: Pedro Mendoza was acquired in the same Calgary deal that brought Carlos Silva to town and Mendoza has struggled a bit to get things going offensively as he finds himself repeating AA this year. He has a ceiling of a pull hitter with plus power and a quality defensive right fielder. His eye is also above average, and he could be an above average BBA player if things work out.
ETA: Despite being in AA this year, Mendoza is penciled in to contribute during the 2045 season, potentially replacing Jimmy Starks Jr, who is on an expiring contract.
Juan Ruiz--Not Ranked.
Arturo Baez--#317 OverallSummary: Ruiz is technically not listed as a prospect right now, despite being just 23 years old and being in AAA this year. He has pitched a combined 95 innings of BBA ball for Nashville before his move last year to Omaha at the trade deadline. Last season, he was ranked as the #18 prospect in the BBA.
ETA: Ruiz could start if needed right now. We will watch Omaha’s rotation to see if an opening occurs, and when an opening does occur it’s likely between Juan Ruiz or Carlos Silva as to who steps up.
Leonardo Ramos--#368 OverallSummary: Baez is another scouting discovery, and has the potential to start if he can develop a bit further. He lives on the corners of the strike zone to compensate for maybe a bit less “stuff” than most would like to see. Baez likely will be stuck at the back end of a rotation if the 19 year old develops.
ETA: Similar to other discoveries, Baez is slotted in for the 2047 time range.
Summary: We hardly need a summary for this guy. He has gone against all odds, and was called up late last year having a 3.91 ERA in 4 starts thanks to his excellent knuckleball. He is thriving again early on in AAA this year with a 2.25 ERA in his first start. Ramos is a fun guy to watch, but with the depth Omaha appears to have he may have to be used only as a spot starter here and there which is a shame.
ETA: He pitched last year, could pitch again if needed but with no clear opening Ramos will spend 2044 in the minors.
