Emilio Morales gets # 2,000(43.25)

During a horrible first month for the Cyclones, and even a worse first month for Emilio Morales, he did manage to cross a “magic” even number that human’s seem infatuated with. Morales had hit number 2,000 against the Lousiville Sluggers the other day in a 9-8 Slugger victory.

Morales, who has always been a very slow starter to the season, just had the worst statistical career month of April ever when he hit just .151/.178/.244 with a career low 2 home runs. Typically Morales has struggled as mentioned early in the season, but there was optimism after Morales compiled a .290/.323/.581 in the spring, but that quickly changed when April struck.

For his career, Morales has a .286/.318/.568 triple slash with 548 career home runs, 1,053 runs scored and 1,420 RBI. He has struck out just 570 times in 6,999 career at bats (8%), and walked 314 times (4.5%).

For the season he has been bad. He is off to an .188/.216/.365 slash with 5 home runs in his first 96 at bats. His 5 home runs still would put him on pace to top 30, but 30 is far off from his past seasons of 55-65 home runs annually. He has shown some signs of heating up as in May he has gone 5/10 with 3 home runs and 7 RBI, and also having not struck out.

Morales is also coming off that fresh 6 year contract extension with the Hawks that will pay him $70,780,000 through 2048. Thankfully for the Hawks, the contract steps down in value each season with the final 2 seasons becoming salary commitments with just 7 figures.
