Omaha shifts around after Ordonez injury, Estrada callup.(43.23)

With the mentioned injury to Orlando Ordonez, it was sort of an unknown what the club planned to do in center field. Would they send Andre Ly out there in center where he struggled last season, give the nod to Jimmy Starks Jr who played center field for many seasons early on in his BBA career, or go a different direction and potentially call up a replacement such as Jorge Gonzalez from AAA?

Those answers were sort of drawn out today as manager Quentin Richardson was asked in his post game presser what the teams planned looked like. He announced that with Wilson Estrada being called up, he would take over at first base immediately against right handed pitching. Jimmy Starks Jr. was going to shift into the left field role that he had played in past seasons, and Jaime Geerdinkck was going to shift from left field to right field. Back tracking into the answer, he announced that Andre Ly would indeed be playing center-field for at least the next month while Orlando Ordonez recovered.

Tony Perez, who was a rule 5 pick last season, will likely be called upon to play around the field and use his flexibility, something that he has elite level of with over 6 positions rated 9 or higher on the scouting scale. When asked if Richardson foreseen any outside addition, such as a current free agent or a trade being made, he was frank in saying that he didn't have control over that and thought that despite that the players currently on the club were capable of getting the job done.
