Omaha calls up top prospect Estrada(43.22)

Well, after an 0-12 start to the season, and the front office pushing patience to its fans, the front office is apparently ready to get off its ass as the team officially announced they are calling up top prospect Wilson Estrada.

Estrada, who was a spring training invitee, was sent down to AAA likely because of service time manipulation that many teams desperately play the game of. It’s worth noting that while Estrada did spend the first two weeks of the season down in AAA, that is not enough to grant the team the extra year of control so it is likely that if that was Omaha’s plan, Estrada would have to go back down at some point in the next 2 years for at least a week’s time.

Estrada has struggled this year in AAA to begin the season, with just a .143/.333/.143 triple slash through 14 at bats. The 21 year old, who was just drafted last season, is listed as a 55 current rating by scouts with the potential be a 70 type overall player when he is fully developed.

What may have ultimately been the straw that broke the camel’s back on Estrada being called up before the aforementioned service time manipulation clock striking midnight was the mentioned Orlando Ordonez injury as Jimmy Starks Jr., who was playing first base is expected to shift back to the outfield to help soften the blow. Regardless, it is unlikely that the club would ever consider calling up Estrada unless he was getting regular at bats so look for him to be immediately put into the lineup.

Oh, don't worry, we're not going to lose that week of control. He'll either go down at the end of the year or he'll get the same treatment next season.
