Jake Garcia gets spot start as Dooley hits the injured list.(43.19)

opening day starter Timo Dooley experienced a sore shoulder after leaving his most recent start against Des Moines, where he went 7.2 innings and allowed 2 earned runs over 112 pitches. While this was just a day to day injury that was expected to have little impact on Dooley’s ability to pitch, the decision was made to place Dooley on the injured list for the minimum 7 days. This is retroactive to April 6th, and so Dooley would be eligible to come off the injured list on April 13th. While it doesn't seem to be serious, it's something to keep an eye on as Dooley missed the post season last year with an elbow strain on his throwing arm.

In his spot, Jake Garcia is set to make a spot start tonight against Des Moines as the team reshuffles it’s rotation to best fit their abilities. Garcia, a lefty, had a 4.55 ERA over 55 innings in 2042, and has a 3.6 ERA over 2 appearances and 5 innings this season. Walks have been the biggest issue for Garcia, as he issued 42 last season and has already issued 6 this year. Swings and misses seem to be his bread and butter as he was able to strike out 66 last year and has 7 this season.

Following Garcia, it appears the club will deploy Yi, Juan Garcia, and Jose Lima when the club travels to Madison. Yi and Juan Garcia both have issues giving up the home run, but Madison’s ball park should help them keep the ball in the park.

I did the same thing with Salgado for a similar injury … no sense taking chances this early.
