Omaha sends Wilson Estrada down to AAA.(43.14)

When Wilson Estrada was invited to spring training many fans were excited, yet skeptical over what it meant. The Cyclones historically don’t invite prospects to spring training or players that they don’t plan to have on their roster to begin the season as it seems they are more intent on getting reps for their everyday starters.

Well, fans questioning whether Estrada would indeed be a full time BBA player now have their answer as the club officially announced that Wilson Estrada has been optioned to AAA-Lincoln.

Estrada, who was the clubs 1st round pick when they selected 8th overall last season, managed to hit .389/.95/.656 in 110 at bats during winter ball this past season and appears ready to contribute in Omaha to the naked eye.

Estrada, spent part of last season learning how to play 3rd base, as it appeared that Emilio Morales would be leaving town. Estrada appeared to have picked it up, however, he did play first base throughout the spring for the club.

Estrada, currently rated a 55 overall and 70 potential first baseman shows, plus contact ability which should translate to a solid batting average. He has above average power potential that could generate 35 homers a season and according to scouts he could be an elite big league third baseman.

With all that being said, don’t expect Estrada to spend much time in AAA-Lincoln this year as this is likely one of those unfortunate service manipulations that teams do in order to gain an extra year of team control in the end.
