Cyclones lock up newcomer OF Geerdinkck for maximum allowed 3 seasons.(43.11)

Although Jaime Geerdinkck has yet to play a meaningful game for the city of Omaha, the front office apparently believes that when he does, he will make an impact. The club today announced a 3 year deal worth $13,380,000 for Geerdinkck that essentially bought out his arbitration seasons along with an additional year at the same price. The contract will pay out an even $4.46 million every year for the outfielder and doesn’t include any opt outs or team options.

In some fans eyes, they compare this total to the $11,500,000 that the club was set to pay Tu-Fu Yong this year and again next season and consider this a nice swap for a player who could contribute just as much if not more, at half the pay. Not to mention he is quite a few years younger.

In most eyes a 3 year contract would have him leave before the 2046 season begins since it seems so early on in 2043, however, he was already signed for 2043 being paid the $2,900,000 he was awarded in arbitration so this contract will cover him through the 2046 season when he will be turning 28 years old.

Geerdinkck struggled a bit in his sophomore season last year only batting .262/.327./493 and putting up a 106 OPS+ an 1.8 WAR. That is a drop off from his debut season where he hit .308/.372/.557 for 127 OPS+ and 3.2 WAR.

Based on the plans that the Cyclones have released, it appears that Geerdinkck is going to be the starting left fielder against right handed pitching, so expect anywhere between 400-500 at bats this year for him to prove that last year was an anomaly.
