Governing Board:
Can I please donate 20 of my PPT to Mike for the help in creating the logo, jerseys, and hat?
In somewhat surprising and shocking news today, the Omaha Front office announced at a previously unscheduled press conference that the Omaha Hawks were going to be no more. Gasps instantly were heard around the state of Nebraska as fans sat on the edges of their seats anticipating that with those words the club would be relocating to a new location.
Not so fast, Hawk Nation(or not Hawk Nation?).
It didn’t take much more than the next sentence for the front office to confirm that the franchise was not leaving Omaha, however was simply rebranding to a more modern name and culture.
“As Nebraskan’s we know that we can count on seeing multiple things throughout the year. Football in September, Snow in January, and around the same time that this baseball team takes the field from April to October….Cyclones. They don’t call this Tornado Alley for nothing.” Said GM Justin Niles.
“When we moved to Omaha from Indianapolis and setup our minor league systems strategically around us, it was by no accident. We love this city just as much as this city loves us. We aren’t going anywhere.” Niles continued.
“However, a Hawk is an animal, and an animal only has a certain life span. For a Hawk, it typically is 10 years, which is how long we have been in town. We’re moving away from animals, and moving to a more permanent name. A name that incites the violence and strength that sends shivers down spines and rips apart anything it’s in path.
“From this point forward, we will be known as the Omaha Cyclones.” Said Niles.
Niles reached to his right to the previously covered item on the trifold to unveil the new logo that the team in Omaha will have. It didn’t take him long before he turned to his right and quickly put on a jersey that the team known now as the Cyclones will wear. (New jersey’s and hat can be found below)
Niles proceeded to take questions.
Question #1: Were any other names considered?
Niles: We’ve had Cyclones for quite some time picked out but we did consider a few others. At one point in the past year, we simply were going to rebrand with a new logo, but it was only proper that we did it all at once.
Question #2: Sort of an oddball question here, but with the field that the team calls home named “Hawks Field”, are we right to assume that will be renamed to Cyclone field?
Niles: It is going to be renamed, however we’re not ready to disclose that information as of today.
Question #3: Are there other changes planned?
Niles: We do have plans this off-season to maybe adjust a few fences at our home field to better suit our team but none of that is finalized enough where I feel comfortable giving an answer.
Question #4: There were rumors that the franchise was going to demolish the current field and simply build a new one? How true were those considering it is only a decade old?
Niles: We haven’t finalized anything as of yet. We’re looking at all available options at all times. Our fans deserve the best and our players deserve the best so that is truly what we are always looking for. A great player experience and a great fan experience. Any GM who doesn’t look at this on a monthly basis is not doing their job.
Question #5: There were rumors that this press conference was going to regard a personnel change, specifically in Quentin Richardson. Can you discuss any truth to those rumors?
Niles: There is zero truth to those. Quentin has been with us this entire ride and he will continue to be with us. His contract is expiring and I know the longer that goes, the longer the question comes up about his job. We expect an announcement eventually on an extension for Richardson.
No further questions.
