Down goes Dooley(42.29)

Post by niles08 » Fri May 22, 2020 12:29 pm

Just as Omaha prepares for one of their most important series in Hawk history, they found out today they will have to do it without the services of their co-ace pitcher Timo Dooley. Dooley had elbow discomfort and left his game against Twin Cities without recording an out, allowing 4 runs in the process.

The 22-year-old Dooley had been enjoying a much improved season over last year when he posted a 4.95 ERA and 5.43 FIP. Now with a 4.54 ERA and 4.48 FIP, Dooley was looking to be coming into the pitcher that scouts anticipated. His curveball has finally improved as well, with scouts now rating that a 7 after sitting at a 4 for many years and not budging.

Dooley placed second in his walks per 9, walking only 1.5 per 9 innings this season, a huge improvement over last season when it was 3.5 walks per 9 innings. To add gas to the fire, Dooley also was striking out more this season, up to 5.3 per 9 innings compared to last season when he was at 3.7.

While some rumors spread that Dooley would be back in a weeks’ time, he is likely going to miss the rest of the post-season according to the club, who apparently is taking the more conservative approach with him and his arm.

There is no word currently on what that means for the pitching staff, which was a 3 man rotation featuring Dooley, Arellano, and Lima against Twin Cities. If the club continues with a 3 man, they very well could stick Yi back in to start and remove him from the closer duties he was handling in that series but it is likely a 4 man rotation is needed for the series.
