According to memo leak, Omaha shifting a starter to closer during playoffs.(42.27)

Post by niles08 » Wed May 20, 2020 1:38 pm

As Omaha prepares for its 5 games series against the Twin Cities, there appears to be some leakage coming from the front office as a leaked memo was sent around the BBA today showcasing what Omaha planned to do with its pitching rotation and lineup for the series against the River Monsters.

It detailed exactly who would be starting and when, and also showcased maybe the why as beside each pitcher’s name who was slated to start it listed some key attributes but well get to that in a minute.

The Hawk’s pitching rotation that was leaked appeared to show that Jose Lima would get the nod for the first game of the series, followed by Timo Dooley in game 2, both on the road. Game 3, returning to Omaha would see Jose Arrellano take the mound. After that, we’re back to Jose Lima and Timo Dooley in games 4 and 5 that could be unnecessary.

Not much to report in terms of the lineup that is shocking. If these reports are correct, Andre Ly who has struggled against lefties will actually hit leadoff against them in both games to start the series. Against, right-handed pitching it seems odd to see Emilio Morales shifted all the way down to the 6th spot in the lineup, with Ly, Ordonez, and the newest Hawk Brett White taking the 3-4-5 spots.

Anyway back to pitching, noticeably absent from the rotation is In-Sung Yi who went 9-8 this season with a 4.19 ERA in 163 innings. He struck out 214 in those 163 innings leading the league in K/9 with 11.8. According to this document, Yi will actually be taking over as the team's stopper, coming in to pitch any time after the 7th inning. This clearly shifts Thomas Rodriguez and Norio Hayashi back to other bullpen duties, a surprise considering Rodriguez and Hayashi’s success this season is closing out games successful in that role.

It’s a bold strategy to make changes in the playoffs, but it’s perhaps a bolder strategy to make them with no history of successor to remove success to put in an unproven theory.

Dear Ron,

We should have looked at the forums before trying to predict what Omaha was going to do live on a podcast.

Sincerely,

Randy

Is on its way.

I kind of like Yi at closer, though playoffs is a tough time to experiment (says the guy throwing Thum into 2B).
