Well, I guess all’s well that ends well? Omaha just two months ago announced that they would be removing from longtime ironman Stephen Clulow from their rotation and that he would be shifting to the bullpen. With Clulow being on an expiring contract, it seemed to be not only a move out of the rotation but also a clear sign Clulow would not be returning in 2043 to the club.
Well, the club announced today that Clulow will indeed be returning for at least next season with a mutual option to return in 2044. Next season Clulow will make $3.5 million and the mutual option is for $4.5 million in 2044.
As mentioned, Clulow has had an interesting season being removed from the rotation, a place he has been since the 2034 season. He is one of the more dependable arms, starting at least 32 games each of those seasons in Omaha, and having a career-high 37 games started in 2040 where he also pitched 250 innings.
This season he was struggling with an ERA of 7.5 in early May, before being removed from the rotation. He made his way back into the rotation on May 27th and has been lights out since then with a 1.62 ERA in June and 2.40 ERA in July. Top it off with his most recent outing, a complete game shutout in Des Moines. All in all, he has lowered his ERA down to 3.86 on the season.
While doing so, a rotation spot that was questionable at best appears to be as solid as ever with Omaha.

Clulow is a nice arm to have around.
