Omaha front office asks for patience as Offense underperforms. (41)

Post by niles08 » Fri Jan 24, 2020 9:11 am

The Omaha front office sent out a press release today, in part asking for the fan bases patience after a drastic start to the 2041 season. After winning 90 games and moving past the first round of the playoffs last season, the fan base was excited but that excitement has quickly faded as Omaha has begun the season with a record of 27-39, sitting in last place in the Heartland division.

One of the main reasons being that they are ranked in the back half of nearly every offensive category.

Take a look at their offensive numbers below:

Batting Average .260 - 12th in FL
On-Base Percentage .316 - 15th in FL
On-Base + Slugging .795 - 9th in FL
Runs Scored 347 - 11th in FL
Hits 590 - 14th in FL
Extra-Base Hits 241 - 9th in FL
Bases On Balls 160 - 16th in FL

Horrible. The thing that may irk the front office the most is that the team has quite a few speedsters who could steal a base if they were to make it to first base safely. The team is dead last in walks, and nearly dead last in on-base percentage because of that with a putrid .316 on-base percentage.

What gives?

While concerning, maybe some of the issues offensively are just bad luck? The BBA Average for Batting Average on Balls in Play is .310. Of the members of the current Omaha batting lineup, only 2 guys are better than that, with several far worse.

Orlando Ordonez & James Monger have reached on balls in play at a respectable .337 and .324 pace. After that, It gets ugly.

Jimmy Starks Jr.--.299
Justin Jackson--.287
Edgardo Diaz--.270
Andre Ly--.254
Tu Fu Yong--.253
Conner Hamilton--.250
Emilio Morales--.224

Icky. But in hindsight, probably says that the Omaha offense has severely underperformed.
