Hawks fail to sign first-round pick despite family connection (41.06)

News broke earlier today that Omaha first-round pick Logan Niles, son of current GM Justin Niles and nephew of current Hawk player Jake Williams has broken off talks regarding signing with the club.

The 18 year old was drafted number 23 and despite slot figures being pegged at $1,500,000, the club had reportedly offered more than 3 times that with an offer said to exceed $5,000,000.

The rumored amount to that signing bonus has also placed Omaha GM Justin Niles on the hot seat as the team currently has struggled to a 26-34 record this season. Could that money have been spent elsewhere? Was Niles trying to hand out a lifetime sum to his son? Many questions, few answers.

For now, however, the club has no choice but to move on as LJ heads to college and Omaha continues its search for organizational depth.
