Omaha posted a different looking lineup today when the lineup against Des Moines came out. Well, the names on it were the same along with the order. The key difference is that James Monger, who has played exclusively at second base this season has swapped defensive assignments with shortstop by name Tu-Fu Yong.
This comes after Yong has struggled to a .914 defensive efficiency at shortstop over 152 innings at the position, a bit drop off from his .987 in 500 innings for Omaha in 2040.
Monger is no superstar at the position, despite seeing increased time there the past 3 seasons. As a shortstop, Monger has a career .959 efficiency and a -26.5 ZR granted much of that is during his time in the minors. Last season at short, Monger had a respectable .984 over 331 inning.
Monger just signed a long term extension, while Yong is signed through 2044, with the 2044 season being a team option for Omaha.
With this change defensively, it appears likely that Omaha may look to make a move to move on from Yong, as Monger is a homegrown talent who appears intent on spending his career in Omaha, as shown by his hometown discount he recently gave the club which pays him less annually than he is even making this season.
