Omaha sends a slew of players for Justin Jackson(40.10)

News out of the trading deadline involved Omaha and Nashville hooking up again, just weeks after the trade that brought Tu-Fu Yong to Omaha for catching prospect Alberto Rodriguez. This time Omaha sends a group of players and acquires a difference-maker at the plate.

Justin Jackson is officially a Hawk and will take over presumably as the designated hitter in Omaha as the team has uncharacteristically struggled offensively this year. The 26-year-old Jackson is batting .277/.345/.510 this year with 26 home runs and will be a valued addition to the Hawk lineup.

Heading to Nashville is starting pitcher Elliott Buckland who spent all of 22 starts in Omaha compiling a 1.4 WAR but is set to be a free agent at the end of the season. Word out of Omaha is the 32-year-old refused to negotiate an extension and was set on testing free agency.

Also leaving Omaha is outfielder Alonso Olvere who has been a utility player since 2038 when he was traded from Montreal. In 153 at-bats this year, Olvere has a .281/.357/.477 batting line, good for a 114 OPS+ and 118 wRC+. Defense is an issue for the 23-year old however as he is likely limited to designated hitter duty or emergency use in the field.

Two prospects are also part of this deal as one of Omaha’s top pitching prospects Rafael Flores is on his way out of Omaha along with closer Gilberto Rivera. Flores has a chance to be a mid-rotation starter once developed but he has dealt with some injuries during his short pro years including a torn rotator cuff in 2040.

Rivera has the potential for mop-up duty in the bullpen but he was selected to the 2040 AA All-Star game this season.

It’s worth noting that Jackson is signed through the 2041 season and is set to earn $10,000,000 next season.

Really like the acquisition of Jackson for Omaha but knowing Recte, he'll also get the most out of Flores and he'll out-perform his potential. Great deal all around.
