Well it seems that Rafael Gonzalez’s horrible season has ended his reign as the Hawks starting first baseman. Gonzalez is currently batting .217/.266/.385 with a -1.2 WAR after posting a 2.5 WAR with a .297/.365/.582 line with 26 home runs over 380 at-bats last season.

Well, the 24-year-old has not only been benched but actually optioned to AAA Lincoln to work on his skill set. Gonzalez has less than 3 years of major league service time so it is likely he will be back up before long but his starting job likely will not be waiting for him.

That is because the team has announced they have called up the top 10 Omaha prospect Edgardo Diaz to replace Gonzalez.

Diaz is clearly ready having spent his second season in AAA this year and batting .305/.366/.636 with 34 home runs in 390 at-bats while playing above-average defense at first base.

The 22-year-old Diaz was the Hawks first-round selection back in the 2036 first-year player draft, picked 19th overall.

Seems like it's pretty much Diaz's time.
