Since his acquisition, Andre Ly has experienced doubt as to whether or not he would actually suit up in an Omaha Hawk uniform and take the outfield at Hawks Field.
Ly, a top prospect who was acquired last year just before the Deadline from Chicago(Huntsville), knew when he was acquired that Omaha had depth in the outfield more than any other position. Or so, it appeared that way.
Ly’s doubts were put to rest as he is going to get the opportunity to start in right field for the Hawks beginning tomorrow. Gustavo Herrera has had a painfully slow start after posting a .290/.320/.440 triple slash last season, he has a .151/.196/.226 this year over 56 at-bats. Ly, on the other hand, has dominated Triple-A Lincoln with a .329/.484/.514 triple-slash line over 93 plate appearances.
No word on whether or not the move is permanent, or whether Ly is still being dangled out there as a piece in order to acquire a front end rotation starter. After all, the club does have a more outfield options than positions available.
Don't discount current BBA player Alonso Olvere, BBA ready Lorenzo Bueno, or maybe most importantly last year's first-round pick Brett Powers who is coming up through the farm system. The other two outfield spots seem to be pretty well covered with Jimmy Starks & Orlando Ordonez cemented into them.
But for now, Ly will forget all of that, take his glove and head to right field near the “Hawks Nest” fan section that is typically complete with banners, flags, and fans in outrageous gear that you would typically only expect to see during a professional or college football game.
