Who shut off the power?(40.3)

While some in Omaha are celebrating a hotter than usual start in Omaha than what has been expected the past few years, others are quietly questioning just what has happened to the Hawks offense that was supposed to drive this club during the 2040 season.

Currently, the Hawks rank 14th in batting average, 15th in on-base percentage, 13th in runs scored, and maybe a shocking 9th in home runs. They are dead last in BB’s yet have struck out the least amount with only 100 strikeouts over the clubs' first 17 games.

This club is expected to be in the top 5 of most categories, especially in runs scored simply because of the ballpark they play in, yet it has to be troubling to see the club struggling to generate any offense at this time.

Looking at the clubs lineup, the only player batting over .300 is Sergio Maldonado who only has 19 at-bats in 2040. James Monger currently sports a .190 batting average, obviously lower than his career .295. Martin Marin is batting .207 after hitting .301 last season and even Jimmy Starks is batting a full .50 below his last season average of .301. Right fielder Gustavo Herrera has a batting average of .151 compared to .290 last season.

If there is any good news, it appears that with so many players having career worst years early on, it is very likely that the trend will not continue and these players will all bounce back to their usual production as none of those names mentioned are Veterans who are even north of 27 years old.

The pitching hasn’t been spectacular but has been as expected for the club except for maybe one bright spot. The bullpen, which was atrocious last season currently ranks first in the Frick with a 2.77 ERA, and nearly a full 4 runs better than the starting pitching rotation which clocks in at 6.20, good for 13th in the Frick.

It seems that all is going wrong in Omaha, except the fact the club is somehow 9-8.
