Week In Review: The club had another week of playing 2-4 ball, after taking 2 out of 3 when welcoming Calgary to town, and then being swept on the road in Seattle. The pitching staff continues to be an issue as the offense ranks in the top 3 in the Frick for major categories while the pitching is on the opposite end of the spectrum in the bottom 3 including dead last in runs allowed and BABIP.

Hitter of the week: Rafael Gonzalez had a week in which the club was expecting more often than they got last year from Gonzalez. He went 12 for 26 with 3 home runs and 9 RBI to raise his batting line to .333/.380/.600 on the year. Gonzalez also is playing well with his glove early on in this year.

Pitcher of the week: Let’s give pitcher of the week honors to Jose Canales. On the year he is 1-0 with 2 saves and has yet to give up any runs. Canales had a rough 2038, so to see an efficient start in 2039 is tremendous. Let’s hope we can get him the ball more to close out wins.

Game of the week: Saturday April 9th, 2039. Trailing in the bottom of the 8th inning 2-1, Rafael Gonzalez hit a solo jack to tie the game much to the delight of fans. Alonso Olvere, who was the hero in last week’s game of the week, came through again with a solo run run that traveled 396 feet to give the club the lead heading into the final inning.

4 Piece Nuggets:

1.) When Rafael Morales was hurt against the Calgary Pioneers, the Omaha Hawks were hopeful that the injury was not serious. However, it proved to be more severe than first thought. The 32-year-old reliever suffered a torn meniscus throwing a pitch in yesterday's game. He is expected to miss 4-5 months, essentially shelving him for the entire season and hurting a bullpen that was already hurting.

2.) The Boise Spuds ended the 20-game hitting streak of Omaha Hawks third baseman Emílio Morales this week by holding him without a hit in 4 at-bats. The 20 game hitting streak is the second of Morales career as he had a 21 game hitting streak back in 2036, which was the last time the club had a 20+ game hitting streak.

3.) Just an update on Manuel Orozco, who is recovering from his second torn rotator cuff in as many seasons, he has begun a light throwing session, obviously taking a step in the right direction. While early indications were he may be back at the end of August, he is actually ahead of schedule and could potentially return in July if things continue to progress as they have. No word on where the team would play the 23 year old if/when he returned this season as both the rotation and bullpen have struggled.

4.) While the staff has struggled, many are pointing their fingers at the defense. Jimmy Starks would be better suited as a corner outfielder, James Monger had a rough week at shortstop, and the always reliable Emilio Morales has 4 errors from 3rd base. All in all, we have seen 13 errors in the team’s first 12 games. No word on the clubs plans to address this.

The week ahead:

Omaha finished its road trip in Hawaii, and then heads back to Nebraska for a series against the current 9-3 Twin Cities Monsters who lead the Heartland. The flexible ticket price for the series against Twin Cities is set at $21.50., nearly 20% lower than the opening series against Calgary which drew an average game attendance of 35,814.

Checking on the Eyas:

For those unaware, an Eya is a baby hawk. In this segment each week, we will take a peek at the minor league squads in the organization and point out any big performances, especially by any top prospects with the organization.

In Lincoln, the team rebounded with a 5-2 week after a 1-6 season start.[ url=https://statspl.us/brewster/reports/new ... 37959.html] Conner Hamilton[/url] had an absurd week hitting 5 home runs during a 5 game stretch. Hamilton is batting .500/.523/.976 early on in AAA.

In Sioux City, the club only had a 3 game series this week, in which they took 2 of 3 from Frederick. Edgardo Diaz is off to a hot start in his first season at AA.

Mankato had a great week, going 5-2 to improve to 8-6 on the season and currently sit in first place in the division. Pat MacRurie & Jose Perez combined for 9 home runs over their past 8 games. Perez & Elroy Medina have 7 home runs each on the yea for the Moondogs.

Short A & Rookie league have not yet began.
