POLL: Augusto Cardenas to start this season in rotation? (39.10)
The Hawks made a few moves this off-season to shore up a horrible bullpen, but it appears that maybe the biggest addition to that bullpen, may find himself in the rotation instead.
Rumors spread today that the club was planning to have the former Crusader Augusto Cardenas pitch out of the rotation rather than as the planned setup man with David Rivas & Pavel Bure Jr.
Cardenas is coming off his 3rd straight season with excellent numbers out of the bullpen in which he has accumulated a WAR of 2.6, 3.6, and 2.5 as a relief pitcher which are among the best. His 2.11 career ERA and 0.86 WHIP are numbers that are without question among the best relief pitchers of this era.
It’s believed that Omaha is not satisfied with throwing Thomas Rodriguez, Claudio Delgado, Bengt De Meza, or the also recently signed Patrick Patchell out there as the 5th starter in the rotation.
Would Omaha really stretch Cardenas out to be a starter? If you believe the perceived rumors, the answer is yes.
But what do you think? Let's take a pulse of the Hawk Nest and see how you vote.(I am more curious on what you guys would do in this situation).

Any specific reason why? I had no plans to put him there, but when I did a "ask manager for pitchers and bullpen" like I usually do and then adjust from there, it put Cardenas in the rotation and I looked at it and thought...well...maybe?
His injuries are probably my biggest concern right now.
For what it is worth, prior to this my plan was to start Rodriguez in the rotation.

I can't see his HTML since it's blocked for me, but I'd assume part of it is because he's really good at his current job.niles08 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2019 10:59 amAny specific reason why? I'd give De Meza the shot, but you could throw Cardenas a few times in Spring Training just to see how he'd do. He's such a good reliever though.

I'm naturally biased against low stamina starters, but also his 3rd pitch is borderline anyway. Plus as stated, he has been incredible out of the pen, why mess with that?niles08 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2019 10:59 amAny specific reason why? I voted de Meza, but really it would probably depend on matchups and your infield defense.

I selfishly voted for Cardenas because I don't want my boys having to face him in the 9th.
