Excellent AAA 2038 season earns Boullosa non-roster invite for ST.(39.9)

The Hawks have made spring training much about getting players ready for the season and less about inviting minor league players to the club for the month as others clubs are prone to do during the spring. As a matter of a fact, the past 6 seasons, the Hawks have not invited a single player as a non-roster invitee to spring training.

This spring is different as the club has announced that Bernardo Boullosa has earned a spring training invite on the heels of his great 2038 campaign in Lincoln.

The 21 year old Boullosa jumped from Rookie & Short-A Hastings play in 2037 all the way to AAA last season, skipping Single-A and Double-A ball, but by his performance you would have never known.

Boullosa slashed a .301/.349/.636 triple line with 41 home runs and 106 RBI in 519 at bats. While in the field, he primarily played left field, however for the final 35 games the club played him at 2nd base which is where it sounds as if he will play in spring training based on Omaha manager Quentin Richardson’s comments.

“We really like Bernardo, we brings a certain energy to the game that should make the spring fun. We have a bit of a logjam in the outfield and we’re going to give him some time this spring in the infield.” Said Richardson.

Bernardo was selected with the 19th pick in the 5th round by the Hawks organization back in 2036.

It's worth noting that while Bernardo got an invite, the clubs top overall prospect outfielder Orlando Ordonez did not get invited to spring training. All indications are that the 19 year old will play the season at AAA Lincoln.
