Today, Omaha announced several changes in personnel on several teams in it its minor league system.
First, it’s worth noting that while 3 coaches were served their walking papers, two coaches were elevated through the current minor league system.
Orlando Suarez has been with the organization since 2033, with stops in single A and last season was asked to help out in Short A Hastings. Now, he will take a step up two levels to AA Sioux City.
Juan Castro, who was recently hired this past off-season, will take over at AAA Lincoln.
The coaches who the club wished the best to were Thomas Davis, who was the Hastings hitting coach, Brandon Clark, who was the pitching coach in AA Sioux City, and Ted Miller who was the Lincoln Loggers AAA pitching coach.
All 3 players who have been hired to join the personnel staff and fill these vacancies are familiar names to those who have followed the Hawks Franchise from Indy to Omaha as all had stops with the franchise during the playing careers.
First, serving as the hitting coach for Short A Hastings, Chad “Crime Spree” Lawrence. The 42 year old spent 8 seasons with the Indy franchise from 2020-2027 playing in over 1,000 games. Chad was great behind the plate and also had a knack for hitting the ball out of the park.
Joining Chad in Hastings will be a very familiar name even to Hawk fans in Omaha as Lambert Snabel made his final stop of his career in Omaha during the 2033 season, starting 25 games for the club. Snabel also pitched with the franchise in Indy in 2031 before being dealt to Vancouver mid-season.
The last familiar face is Eduardo Lopez. He pitched for the club from 221 to 2026 before being dealt to Yellow Springs in 2027 and then dealt back in 2027 and returning to Yellow Springs in 2028. He would find a spot with Atlantic City and retire from the game in 2035 with a 196-99 BBA record and a 3.32 ERA finishing his career with 4 top 3 finishes in the Nebraska voting.
“We have preached family and togetherness to most of our players over the years and truly believe that once you’re a Hawk, you’re always a Hawk. We could not be more pleased than to welcome all 3 former players back with the organization and look forward to their continued contributions on the field and off to the great cities that we are a part of. We wish the exiting members of the coaching staff nothing but the best. Last off-season we took a long hard look at our minor league system knowing that it needed to be rebuilt and create stability. While we have made great strides going from the 29th ranked system in the league to now the 9th best system, we feel these moves will only help to build on that.” Said Omaha GM Justin Niles

I have always wanted to but just hadn't had anyone who actually played for me since I arrived during the 2030 season retire that was going to be a somewhat good coach.
I don't even know what makes a good coach...I just assumed intelligence and leadership.

I've been doing it for a long time and I still don't know what makes a good coach. I just hire guys that have a history with the club and if they win enough they get a good reputation! Was going to hire Dan Leonard, but I guess he just isn't ready to retire.

I line bringing back old players too. But for coaches, mostly I hire them, then watch off the team does well in their area or not. If so, promote.
