In somewhat surprising news, the Hawks sent out a press release announcing that they would be expanding Hawk’s field by 5,000 seats. Sure, more seats are great, but they aren’t needed. Omaha only drew an average of 29,312 people to their home games last season, a big drop from the 37,587 on average in 2037.

So what gives?

According to insiders with the team, the thinking is that the club will fill those seats on nights when they play marque games such as when Yellow Springs is in town or when other top tier teams visit Omaha.

How does this affect ticket prices?

Well, we have good news and bad news. According to those same sources, the team plans to have a variety of ticket prices available. Season ticket prices did rise this season despite a poor showing last year and the average ticket price currently for the 2039 season is rumored to be $24.50 however the team is said to be planning pricing reflective of the opponent at hand.

For instance, when Yellow Springs comes to town, plan to pay $35 or even upwards per ticket, but when Hawaii is in town, plan to pay $15 or potentially even less.

A bold move for the club, however one that maybe isn’t being done much around the league.
Just a note: I do plan to do something similar to this, and also track each game this season as far as its attendance and pricing to see what the scoop is on how much the opposing teams fan interest affects game attendance.
