Omaha quietly avoids arbitration with several members of it’s potential 2039 rotation.(2039.65)

While the Hawks were eliminated early from contention this year, that didn’t stop the front office from making some quick quiet moves to begin looking toward next season.

Most notably, back at the beginning of October, the team announced that they had come to an agreement with 4 of their pitchers on the BBA roster to avoid arbitration during the off-season.

Those pitchers were all at one point a part of the Omaha rotation this past season and several will return for next season’s rotation.

Carson Stoller signed a 1 year deal worth $1,440,000. Despite an injury this season, Stoller still managed to pitch in 19 games and compiled an ERA just over 5 over 98 innings pitched. His BABIP of .327 says he had a bit of bad luck and the club is hopeful that his ERA in 2039 is closer to his current career average of 4.14. Stoller will be entering year 6 of his BBA career and many forget he is only 25 years old as his injury report looks more like a 70 year old patient during an annual checkup at the retirement home.

Speaking of injuries, the club also avoided arbitration with Manuel Orosco, signing him to a $830,000 pact to practically rehab all season. Orosco tore his rotator cuff back at the end of April, for the second time in 2 seasons and this one will have him sidelined through much of the 2039 season. He isn’t expected back until around August 2039 however did pitch well in his 5 starts before the injury.

Claudio Delgado was also welcomed back with a $1,600,000 salary. The 26 year old came by way of trade from Brooklyn in July and spent time both in Omaha and in AAA Lincoln last season. Look at Delgado as a good insurance piece in case the club falls to injury again next season.

25 year old Maximo Trevino was also signed to avoid arbitration. Trevino pitched in the bullpen last season appearing in 17 games with less than spectacular results. He is somewhat of a surprising signing, but I would expect Trevino to spend much of the season at AAA Lincoln unless the bullpen is as bad as it was this year, which I would cross my fingers is impossible.

The Hawks weren’t done at 4 however as they also announced that they had avoided arbitration with a key member of their rotation in 2038, a surprising one at that as they avoided arbitration with Bengt De Meza. De Meza was a great surprise for the Hawks compiling a 1.8 WAR over 24 games pitched for the club and the level of consistency the club desperately needed. With Orosco out with the rotator cuff, expect De Meza to be the 5th man in the rotation.

With these agreements, the only two players on the roster who are set to go to arbitration is reliever David Rivas and bench player Tyler Moore. Neither are projected to reach much more than $700,000 for next season.

Stoller's career thus far is a disappointment at best. Still rooting for the kid!
