Omaha sends Olvere down to AAA, reorganizes position players(38.64)

Post by niles08 » Wed May 08, 2019 2:04 pm

Omaha made a somewhat surprising move today by announcing they have sent outfielder Alonso Olvere down to AAA Lincoln, and recalled Terrence Mack.

Olvere was acquired over the past off-season in the trade with Montreal that send a group of players along with catcher Hank Brewer to Montreal for Dan Clapper & Olvere.

The season has not been the most kind to Olvere, as some bad luck also played a role judging by his .249 BABIP. He has only a .225/.274/.373 slash line with 13 home runs and 41 RBI in 420 plate appearances. Maybe the most surprising part of the demotion is that Olvere was just seemingly heating up as in 9 games in August he had a .371/.405/.543 triple slash line over 37 plate appearances.

Mack has been okay in AAA this year with a .252/.346/.488 slash line and 11 home runs in 246 at bats.

To further complicate things, judging by the lineup manager Quentin Richardson submitted for today’s game against Twin Cities it appears that Omaha is shifting some players around in hopes of bettering themselves in flexibility but one would assume the defense will take a step back as adjustments and learning takes place from these players.

Jimmy Starks Jr, who previously played center field is slotted in at 2nd base, while James Monger has shifted over to shortstop. Taking over for Starks in Center is Gustavo Herrera & Terrence Mack is the starter in right field.
