Two Hawks about to be #1 on team’s career leaderboard

With a forgetful season in Omaha, two Hawks players at least have fans somewhat interested in coming to the games to cheer the team on. Those two Hawk player’s also are expected to cross the finish line and become the team’s all-time leaders in two of the most prolific categories on a team’s leaderboard.

First, Jose Canales finds himself at 236 career saves and with 5 saves to reach 241 will pass George Thrilkil and his 240 career save total. If the Hawks can win some games moving forward and keep from blowing games, Canales should find himself atop the leaderboard this season.

Of course, it took Thrilkil 897 innings to master the feat and it has taken Canales only 447 innings.

The 27 year old Canales is also signed by the club through the 2041 season with a team option for the 2042 season so Canales has an outside shot to finish with over 400 career saves with the club if he keeps his current pace of 43 saves per season. Do keep in mind, at that point and time in 2042, Canales will only be 33 years old and could still put on a few saves from that point.

Since his arrival to the big leagues in 2033, he has led the league 4 out of the past 5 seasons in games saved.

Canales is currently 57th on the all-time leaderboard for BBA history and will be 55th if he gets to 240. He will jump into the top 37 if he reaches 300, and 400 becomes more inclusive as he will be in the top 20 all-time.

As a matter of a fact, there are only 3 players head of him on the all-time active list who are still active, all of which are over the age of 34. Those two players are Esteban Velasquez with 282 saves and Miguel Macias with 260 saves. Both players that Canales could catch and surpass by the time he reaches the age of 28.

Switching to the batter’s box, Sergio Ramos had 329 home runs with the club over 5607 plate appearances, which currently rank #1 in Omaha Hawk history.

Emilio Morales needs just 13 home runs to tie Ramos, and has 4471 plate appearances throughout his career. Morales currently has 31 home runs on the season and is projected to hit another 23 this season so one would expect Morales to be in the #1 spot come seasons end.

The 28 year old Morales has led the league in home runs the past 3 seasons with 64,59, & 64 last year. He is also signed with the Hawk organization through the 2042 season on what was a front loaded contract.

If Morales can average 50 home runs a season for the next 4, and assuming he hits the 54 projected this season, he will have 539 home runs in his career at the age of 32, placing him 13th on the all team leaderboard and arguably within striking distance of the all-time leader Bopper Kengos who has 720 as he would only need 181 more from the age of 32 onward.
