Omaha on the brink of acquiring all-star?(2038.55)

Post by niles08 » Thu Apr 25, 2019 8:43 am

Rumors are swirling around Omaha that the club is within reach of acquiring a player who currently leads his position in all-star votes for the upcoming all-star game. Who that player is remains to be seen, but word going around is that it is not a pitcher of any kind and instead is a position player.

When looking at Omaha’s current needs, the first thing that pops out may be a corner outfielder, a shortstop, or potentially a catcher.

Omaha has somewhat of a crowded outfield right now with Alonso Olvere & Martin Marin covering the corner spots along with Jimmy Starks Jr & Gustavo Herrera in the mix at center field so it appears unlikely the club would acquire an outfielder without shipping one out of town.

The shortstop position has been one of the stronger positions as Max Hatcher has exceded expectations at the position after being signed over the off-season to a 1 year deal. Omaha doesn’t have much in the minor leagues as far as BBA ready shortstops and Hatcher is arbitration eligible this off-season so it could very well be a shortstop the team is working towards.

Or is it a catcher? Dan Clapper has been underwhelming for the club since being acquired from Montreal & Benjamin Clark has played well lately but had a very slow start. The two have split time basically evenly this season so if a catcher is acquired, the platoon is likely over.

This is a developing story and once again at this point and time, only a rumor.
