Omaha has obvious starting pitching woes, so the last thing somebody would expect would be for them to trade a starting pitcher. Well, I guess expect the unexpected, as the team traded Manuel Pena to Huntsville for relief pitcher Santiago Diaz.
Omaha does have a troubled bullpen, ranked 15th in the Frick league, but Diaz is not going to fix that and robbing the poor to give to the poor is not going to fix anything either.
The one positive that this provides Omaha is that they were able to eliminate Manuel Pena’s remaining $36,000,000 owed as Huntsville will now assume that over the next 4 seasons. Omaha was likely going to have to make a move during the off-season as they were projected to be $10,000,000 over the salary cap for 2039.
All in all, Omaha acquired Pena for $500,000 in bonus funds, so at the end of the day, it appears that they acquired Diaz for $500,000 in bonus funds instead.
The club announced that Emilio Parades would be taking Pena’s spot in the rotation until further notice as the club falls further back out of playoff contention.

On paper Diaz should really help your troubled pen. In reality- he hasn;t.
