Omaha may be having a slow start to the season, but a player on the squad who is still putting up his usual numbers is Emilio Morales. His 15 home runs through the teams first 35 games, put him tied for 3rd in the home run leader board for the season and hsi .297 batting average is about on par with his career average through his first 7 seasons in the BBA.
He's on pace yet again to hit 60+ home runs. Morales has compiled seasons of 64,59,64 over the past 3 seasons. No home run this season however may be more monumental for him than the one he hit last night. That home run being number 300 in his career.
Morales has an outside chance to crack the top 100 home run hitters of all time by the end of the season as #99 is currently at 354 and if not this season, should reach that mark in the early stages of 2039. As a matter of a fact, if he hits 60 this season and 60 next season, which certainly isn't out of the question, he would be at 407 career home runs through the age of 29 which would put him around 60th on the all-time leader board. It's not out of the question to think he has 1-2 more 60 home run seasons after that for his age 30 and 31 seasons putting him at 527 career home runs through age 31 after the 2041 season.
That would place him 17th all time and 190 home runs off the all-time leader Bopper Kengos.
At age 31, if Morales his an average of 38 home runs a season each season for 5 years, he would eclipse that mark. How realistic is 40 home runs a year for a 32-36 year old season?
It's not out of the question.
Say he played until he was 38, as some players giving him 7 seasons to hit 190 home runs. That's only an average of 27 a season which is not unthinkable.
Regardless of whether or not Morales gets to 721, he has earned the respect of nearly everyone in Omaha and most likely a place in the BBA Hall of Fame when his career winds down. One thing that is bound to happen is that Morales will be invited back to Hawks field to unveil a bronze status that will come to it's final resting space outside of Hawks field.
