The Omaha front office arguably made a “panic move” today by calling up recently acquired Rafael Gonzalez and also announcing that the line-up would immediately be shifted around due to the recent call-up along with the acquisition of Vicente Chavez to help off-set a slow start.
First off, Omaha is 18-19, just how slow of a start is it for the club? Let’s look at the past few seasons.
2037- 24-11 through this point.
2036- 21-15 through this point.
2035- 14-22 through this point.
2034- 20-24 through this point.
Final win total:
2037- 91 wins
2036- 98 wins
2035- 88 wins
2034- 82 wins
Looking at the statistics, this is the worst start for the club since 2035, and coincidentally enough that is the only season of the past 4 that they missed the post-season.
Should the club panic? Probably not.
Should they be on alert? Always.
That seems to be what is happening by the Gonzalez call up, along with manager Quentin Richardson announcing the following moves/changes to the lineup.
“Gonzalez is going to be our everyday DH. Olvere, who currently was in the DH spot is going to shift to right field and Herrera, who has played very well in right field is going to cover more of a 4th outfield spot. Chavez, who we just acquired as well, will also help in the outfield but will see most of his time in the first bat off the bench and an occasional start here and there” said Richardson. “It’s a funny thing, our pitching staff has taken a media beating but is currently ranked 2nd in the Frick however our offense has struggled to put runs on the board. We’re just trying to shake things up a little and see what falls out.
