Not to be outdone by Mtume, Marin agrees to a contract as well(2039.42)

Fresh on the heels of news that Omaha had signed Edris Mtume to a 3 year contract extension worth $30,000,000, Martin Marin posted on twitter news that had Hawks fans celebrating a second time for the day.

Shortly after, the club would confirm the news.

Martin Marin had signed a 3 year contract extension worth $17,520,000 with the club and would be remaining in Omaha through the 2041 season. This comes as surprising news as the 24 year still had 2 seasons remaining of arbitration and the club has typically waited until the year before arbitration before beginning negotiations.

This will however, still buy out the first year of Marin’s free agency.

Looking at the deal itself, Marin will make $4,840,000 in 2039 followed by annual $1,000,000 increases finishing with $6,840,000 in 2041 which will only be his age 27 season so a great chance to snag a long term free agent contract at that point.

Marin is entering his second full season in Omaha and last season finished with a 1.99 WAR, along with 39 home runs and a .264/.312/.846 batting line. This season he currently has 9 home runs in his first 122 at bats and is batting .294/.312/.942 and has a 0.80 WAR already.
