Hawks Left Field Spring Training Preview(38.22)

Post by niles08 » Fri Mar 15, 2019 12:02 pm

This is a series that I have stolen from the Jackrabbits, where we will evaluate each position leading into and during the early stages of Spring Training. Only players currently on the 40 man roster will be included in this series as prospects will be looked at in upcoming weeks. This is the sixth of eleven positions that will be posted. In this part, we will take a look at the left field position.
Projected Starter: Martin Marin
Backup: Jesus Rojas
Trying to find a spot: None

Martin Marin is the easy answer here for those looking at a projected outfield. Marin hit 39 home runs last season, and although his work in the field could have been better, it also could have been much worse. Marin is still very young and should continue to blossom into a potential perennial 40 home run hitter in the home run friendly ballpark that Omaha calls home.

Marin is still under team control for a few seasons, however look for the club to lock him up similar to what they have done with their other young stars in past weeks.

After Marin, another big question mark on the 4th outfield spot as it all depends on whether Jesus Rojas is the clubs starting shortstop on opening day or whether he becomes a 4th outfielder for the club. This could be Rojas or could be the before mentioned Herrera, who currently is in AAA. The club has a bit of cap room left and could also decide to bring someone in on a cheap contract.
