Omaha extends Maldonado(38.15)

James Monger (8/7/7/5/8 Ratings, .299/.354/.524, 111 HR, 357 RBI) wasn’t the only player extended this past week as the club also announced that they have signed Sergio Maldonado (8/8/3/3/10 Ratings, .296/.337/.423, 33 HR, 183 RBI) to a 3 year extension worth $7,260,000. Maldonado was awarded $1,300,000 this season through arbitration and will receive raises in million dollar increments each of the next 3 seasons under the deal.

In 2039, he will earn $1,420,000 followed by $2,420,000 in 2040 and then finally $3,420,000 in 2041.

Maldonado played in 160 games last season for Omaha, all at first base, and faired well nearly winning a Diamond Glove at the position. While he displays very little power, he has a knack for getting on base and with a weighted on base average of over .300 each season appears to be in Omaha’s long term plans.

While Maldonado only hit 9 home runs last season, he did come close to reaching 40 doubles once again. He has reached 40 doubles 3 of his 5 seasons in the BBA.
