Omaha quietly says goodbye to Miura (38.10)

Post by niles08 » Wed Mar 13, 2019 1:32 pm

The Omaha front office has announced that pitcher Hirotada Miura has been traded to Wichita for two relief pitchers.

Miura was the clubs top pitcher in terms of “win’s” last season posting a respectable ERA under 4.00 to go along with those 15 victories in what was somewhat considered a career season for Miura, who also posted a 4.2 WAR over 238 innings.

Despite those numbers, it was a far drawn conclusion that Miura would probably not have a spot on the Hawks starting rotation, barring injury.

Instead of keeping Miura in the bullpen waiting for that injury that hopefully will not occur, the club decided to trade him while his value was high for two relief pitchers.

It’s also worth noting that Miura was in the last year of his arbitration eligibility this season and according to reports, the club was not willing to pay Miura his rumored demands of over $10,000,000 per season.

So who did Omaha acquire?

If you’re looking for sexy names, you may as well turn back now.

Omaha acquired 27 year old Astika Ramadhin and 26 year old Armando Rasquilha.

Ramadhin appeared in 37 games last season and had a 3.89 ERA. He fared better against left handed batters, giving up only 1 long ball in 17 innings compared to 5 against right handed in 20 innings. Ramadhin is under team control for an additional 3 seasons. Though not a sexy name, he could very well hold left handed batters in check for quite a while in Omaha.

Rasquihla is probably the better of the two players, but he only appeared in 5 games last season before suffering a torn shoulder labrum effectively ending his 2037 campaign. Radquilha is better against right handed hitters, but can also handle lefties if need be. He also has 3 years of team control left.

Thinking outside the box, I am imaging the duo will more than likely be left and right specialists in the current Omaha bullpen, but down the line Rasquihla could potentially turn into a setup guy if need be.

This trade seems like a win-win for both clubs and all players involved.
