Omaha picks 1, loses one in rule 5(38.8)

Omaha didn’t necessarily make a sexy pick in the rule 5 draft, but they may have filled a need. With their pick in the rule 5 draft, Omaha added 23 year old closer Guomez Berge.

Berge was most recently in Las Vegas’s organization, but appears ready to get his first shot at the BBA. Berge has good stuff and movement on his pitches, but may struggle to consistently get the ball over the plate.

Last season at AA he had a 3.43 ERA over 57 innings, where he recorded 28 saves and had a 5-4 record. His 3.80 FIP also is a good indicator that he may be able to take the next step.

Regardless, it’s a gamble for Omaha, but one with an open roster spot that the team should have no reservations about taking.

Leaving Omaha is outfielder Harry Scott.

Scott didn’t figure to be much more than a role player in the minor leagues because of Omaha’s depth in the outfield but he does play a very good left field. His lack of power doesn’t do him any favors in Omaha’s park and he should get a chance to play in Hawaii.

He hit .272/.325/.419 last season in single-A Mankato.
