Omaha goes all in.(36.15)

Post by niles08 » Thu Nov 01, 2018 2:13 pm

Today is the trade deadline and it seems the trend has continued that has been happening all week.

Omaha is going all in!

Coming off the heels of the acquisition of Sergio Maldonado (8/8/3/3/10 Talents, .309/.338/.427, 6 HR, 35 RBI) from Charm City, another trade has been announced!

In this one, Omaha has acquired outfielder Martin Marin (8/8/9/5/8 Talents, .259/.308/.462, 13 HR, 34 RBI). Similar to Maldonado, Marin is 22 years old but unlike Maldonado, Marin has some pop to hit bat. He has hit 13 home runs in 290 at bats this season while batting a shade below his short career average.

No word on where Omaha plans to play Marin as they have a loaded outfield currently with bats already on the bench, but Marin does play an average left field. The 22 year old is potentially entering his first year of arbitration this coming season, but if he fails to reach super 2 status(which it appears he will) he will enter his first arbitration season next year.

Heading back to Phoenix in the deal is Omaha’s #2 overall prospect Chua-Kah Yang who the club recently spend $10,800,000 this past offseason on. Yang has the potential to be a fantastic power hitter in the future, but that future is still quite a ways off as the 17 year old figures to not see the big leagues for at least another 5 years.

Also going to Phoenix is AAA pitcher Guenther Poppmeier (7/6/6 Talents). The 25 year old Poppmeier has been in the franchise since 2030 when he was a 2nd round pick by the then Indy Grasshoppers. He has struggled to find his way through much of the minor leagues but has improved the past 2 seasons on his ERA. He did have a short stint in the BBA with Omaha last season and also for 3 innings this year. At this point Poppmeier is probably a lifelong AAA player.

Now the question on many Hawks fans minds is whether the club gave up to much, and secondly why make the deal to begin with without a clear path for Marin to play?

Word is a statement is being put out shortly from the Omaha front office.
