Emilio Morales rewriting Hawks history book.(36.12)

Post by niles08 » Mon Oct 29, 2018 10:45 am

Emilio Morales http://montybrewster.net/BBA/HTML/news/ ... 27941.htmlis still considered a fairly young pup. He is 26 years old and only in his 5th full BBA season. He has played in 784 games in his career, going to the plate 3007 times. He has 841 hits of which 334 of those are extra base hits. Going a step further, 202 have left the ball park completely.

Maybe most astonishing, he has struck out only 204 times, and never more than 46 times in a season. That is a 6% strikeout rate. Some of the best sluggers of all time, those who hit 60-70 home runs a season, still struck out 30% of the time. Team’s just put up with it because of their incredible ability to manufacture runs by hitting it over the fence.

Long Chamberlain, who hit a BBA record 73 home runs in 1986, still struck out 111 times in 590 at bats. That’s an 18% strikeout rate, or 3 times the rate of Emilio Morales. Last season when Morales hit 64 dingers, the 6th most all time in the BBA, he struck out only 30 times in 630 at bats. A 4% strikeout rate.

But now, social media has begun to question whether Morales may be the best player this franchise has ever seen. Looking at the team’s record books it is hard to argue with that based on his current path.

Morales currently ranks in the following for the Omaha Hawks:

Single Season:

Slugging Pct: #1(2035)
OPS: #6(2035)
Total Bases: #1(2035), #5(3034)
Home Runs: #1(2035), #2(2034), #9(Already Current season, will finish #3 if he hits 44 or more)
RBI: #1(2035), #6(2034), #5(Current season, will finish top 2 if he has 129 or more)

Career Record book:

Slugging Pct: #3
Home Runs: #5—Needs 127 to be all time leader.
RBI: #8—Needs 352 to be all time leader.

That doesn’t include others such as Runs, Hits, Total Bases which he finds himself just outside the top 10 looking in.

So maybe the social media hype is valid?

Looking at the current season, You could say Morales has slowed down a bit this season, only hitting 40 home runs through his first 123 games. Of course, those 40 home runs are tied for 1st in the Frick League with John Mick who also rivals Morales atop the RBI Leaderboard (121 to 119).
Keep in mind that Morales has had a tendency to go on massive hot steaks as dictated by his run of 26 home runs in 35 games last July/August.

Morales is a tough out, as they say. If he could walk he'd already be in the Hall of Fame. :)
