Starks still out after opening day HBP (36.2)

Post by niles08 » Wed Sep 19, 2018 10:08 am

The shortstop position covers the hole between 2nd Base & 3rd Base, and last season for Omaha that hole seemed to grow bigger and bigger as the season went on.

Finally, Jimmy Starks Jr. was given the chance to move in from center field to play shortstop and to attempt to cut that hole significantly. That seemed to work but after 18 games, Jimmy went down with a torn ACL ending his season.

The prior year, Starks broke his elbow diving for a ball in center field, also ending his season.

Since 2034, Starks has accumulated just 135 at bats. He still has managed to have over 1,500 at bats and the tender age of 23, however his injury history has team officials concerned and that concern will only grow as his 23 year old body turns into a 33 year old body.

Starks was phenomenal last season over 305 at bats with a triple slash line of .341/.422/.541 to get an OPS nearly 50% higher than the average big leaguer. His 3.5 WAR through 83 games would have had him finishing near the tops had that continued through the remaining 80 games.

Did we mention he wasn’t awful at shortstop either? A position he had never played other than 44 starts in 2032 at AAA which were less than fantastic.

So where is Starks this season?

On the disabled list.

He had 1 at bat opening day, and the very next at bat he was hit by the pitch from Yellow Springs pitcher Lawrence LaLoosh.

Starks has been dealing with concussion symptoms ever since and a return date is unknown at this time. He might be back next week, he might be back in 2037. Nobody knows.

Based on the current production coming from the much bigger hole at shortstop now for Omaha, this team needs Starks back as soon as possible.

Scarier than any arm injury. I've seen players in OOTP come back without issue. I've seen them come back not even a shell of their former self. Rough.

LaLoosh has bigger problems than hitting Jimmy Starks right now.

I think the league should suspend both indefinitely.
