By now most have heard the story. If you hadn’t, you can check an Omaha newspaper over the past few weeks as the World Herald has covered the Eliseu Satino (8/9/6/4/9 Ratings, .364/.364/.727, 1 HR, 2 RBI) mishap maybe more than any other sports story this month.Side note: This is all fabrication to have some sort of story behind trading Satino for Pettersen along with the cash.
Basically, an Omaha representative (Scott Smith) had faxed over league paperwork to have Satino added to the clubs 40 man roster in order to protect him from the upcoming Rule 5 draft pool. Satino however was not removed from the pool, and Hawaii promptly selected him in the Rule 5 draft. Satino is only in a Hawks uniform now after Omaha agreed to send prospect catcher Steffen Petersen (6/6/6/4/8 Ratings) and $7,000,000 to the Tropics organization.
First, let’s just say that Satino has only appeared in 3 games and has 11 at bats over the team’s first 11 games. He has hit well over those games with a .364/.364/.727 batting line but those don’t seem to be $7,000,000 numbers. He is only 21 and under team control for 6 years, so here is hoping the team utilizes him moving forward rather than as an occasional DH & pinch hitter.
Now, onto the hard-hitting in depth reporting from the World Herald. The story hit lines and key information has been copied and pasted below from the official website of the newspaper, so those without a membership are able to read. The craziness that appears in this story seems to be something out of a Hollywood film, not a BBA organization.
“After discovery, Smith had not sent the fax to the league office to put Satino on the 40 man roster but instead he had listed a currently unnamed member of the club to be put on the 40 man roster, officials with the club began to question Smith and what exactly he was doing.
After countless interviews with Smith the team had discovered that the unknown player had promised to pay Smith to put him on the 40 man roster along with putting him on the Omaha active roster, knowing that afterwards the club would have to either keep him there or designate him for assignment if they needed to open up another 40 man roster spot. The player was reportedly hoping the club would designate him for assignment as he had an agreement with another club in place where that player would sign and be in their minor leagues working with a former manager and friend.
The club in question is unknown and confidential at this time, however it is believed that Smith has shared with this club all of Omaha’s scouting information, team financials, and other confidential information and so basically was working with this club but had infiltrated Omaha’s front office as somewhat of a mole.”
