No argument that Omaha has had a much improved season at the plate this year. Their current batting average of .269 is .022 better than last season’s .247. Some will argue that it is better or more developed players, some will credit batting coach German Lopez who is in his first full-year with the organization and the first employment of any kind since 2027.
Just taking a quick glance at the batting statistics for the season and one quick thing stands out. The number of strikeouts the club has fallen victim to. A current total of 596. Good for 1st place in the Frick. The team leader in strikeouts is currently Tyler Moore (6/8/8/6/6 Ratings, .228/.311/.440, 12 HR, 31 RBI) with 72 but with somewhat limited playing time there is a chance he doesn’t reach 100. There is an excellent chance that no single player on this team reaches 100 strikeouts this season.
Last season two players did. Buck Munoz (7/8/8/5/6 Ratings, .243/.288/.439, 14 HR, 41 RBI) struck out 141 times in 615 at bats(22%) and Aymeric Barajas (7/8/6/7/7 Ratings, .264/.337/.402, 9 HR, 32 RBI) struck out 111 times in 541 at bats(20.5% . This season Munoz has struck out 61 times in 270 at bats(22%) so he is pretty much identical. Barajas however just 58 times in 331 at bats(17.5%). Many others have cut down on their strikeout numbers just as Barajas has and some never had a problem to begin with. Case in point, Emilio Morales. Morales has struck out only 17 times in 376 at bats. That’s good for a 4.5% strikeout rate. Even more impressive when you consider he is tied for the Frick League home run lead with Rupert Grant (8/6/9/6/4 Ratings, .262/.335/.567, 38 HR, 101 RBI) who has struck out 142 times in 420 at bats.
All in all, Omaha is on pace to produce only 776 strikeouts at the plate after striking out 1,074 times in 2034.
Another interesting tidbit, walks are also on pace to be down by over 100 compared to the prior year so not only is Omaha not striking out as often, they are actually walking less and have a higher batting average. They have already nearly tied their triples total for all of last season with over 60 games remaining and have an OPS that is .052 higher than 2034.

Putting the ball in play gets a bad rap these days.

Nice little piece. That's impressive.
I don't want to but I think like this is what has made today's game bad. Too many HR or K approaches. It's all or nothing. But I've had this conversation before in the Off-Topic thread.
Also got me looking at my own team. Looks like I'll have two guys reach 100 Ks this season. Mick (96 currently) and Machiavelli (81 currently). We have no one else over 50 right now. Oddly enough we are second in Ks behind Omaha.
